West Calder High School built a social enterprise within the school that gives pupils first-hand experience of running a successful café business.
The Co-Lab is a relaxed café and meeting space that encourages pupils, teachers and parents to mix and share ideas.
The student body was hands-on with the branding process and setting up the café, and they run it as a business themselves, and it’s open to the public.
It provides a safe space for pupils that struggle with attendance, on-the-job training and certification for future employment.
